Abstract
Zhongjiannan basin is a large Cenozoic sedimentary basin developed in the west continental margin of South China Sea. Exploration data show that the basin has good hydrocarbon potential with vast area, considerable sedimentary thickness and various local traps. An analysis of type, distribution and evolu-tion of local traps in the basin was done based on the integrated analysis and interpretation of a great deal of multi-channel seismic data collected in the basin. Local traps in the basin mainly include structural traps, stratum traps and composite traps. As a strike slip-extensional composite basin, it developed extensional structural styles in the early time, associated with extensional local traps; later, it was reworked by strike-slip stress reformation, and the tenso-shear and compresso-shear structures were formed such as flower structure; special structural and sedimentary environment resulted in the formation of stratum traps and composite traps.
