Abstract
The isolated carbonate platform is one of the major types of environment where marine carbonate reservoir formed.Based on the study of sedimentation and diagenetic characteristics and the prediction of Carboniferous isolated carbonate platform reservoirs of Kenjiyak oil field in the eastern margin of Pre-Caspian basin, this study demonstrates that sedimentary facies are rather narrow there and change fast laterally. The quality of reservoirs is significantly controlled by sedimentation and diagenesis. The shoal facies formed in a shallow high-energy environment along the platform margin is prone to diagenetic alteration such as dolomitization and dissolution, and is therefore the main facies containing high-quality reservoir. The unique depositional and diagenetic characteristics of the Kenjiyak isolated Carboniferous carbonate platform reservoir could provide a clue for reservoir prediction in the oil fields under similar conditions.
