GEOLOGICAL MODELS OF GAS HYDRATES DEPOSITS ALONG THE CONTINENTAL MARGIN

  • The formation of gas hydrates deposits is closely associated with its geological environment. The geological models of gas hydrates deposits in the continental margin can be grouped into three types, i.e. diagenetic, structural and complex models. The diagenetic hydrate is controlled by sedimentation, the gas is mainly biogenic and the hydrate is distributed in relatively penetrable beds with low saturation. The structural type of hydrates is controlled by tectonism, while the liquid saturated with gas migrated into hydrates stability zone, along faults, mud volcanoes, etc. The structural hydrate is mainly distributed around the structures with high saturation. The complex hydrate controlled by both sedimentation and tectonism occurs in penetrable beds around structures.
