THE MODERN SEDIMENTARY ENVIRONMENT AND TRANSPORT TRENDS IN JIULONGJIANG ESTUARY

  • 58 surface sediment samples from the Jiulongjiang estuary were analysed by laser particle sizer.Hierarchical clustering and GSTA model were respectively applied to the analyse. The sedimentary characteristics and environments and migration trends of surface sediments in the study area were discussed. The results show that surface sediments are made up of 10 kinds of sediment types in Jiulongjiang estuary, compared those in 1980's. The sediment type distributions and grain sizes have changed.The study area was divided into three types of depositional environments corresponding to its sedimentary dynamics properties. The migration trends are affected by the special terrain and complex hydrodynamic conditions of surface sediments as follows:in in the north and out in the south, anti-clockwise migration trends in the northwest of the Haimen Island and convergence in three directions of migration in the area east of the Haimen Island.
