CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDIMENT TRANSPORTATION NEAR XIAOQING ESTUARY

  • Based on observation data of suspended sediment and bed sediment grain sizes, suspended sediment concentration(SSC), and tidal current,we have studied the characteristics of suspended sediment transport near Xiaoqing estuary in Bohai Sea. The research results show that the SSC increases gradually from the seashore to the offshore area in the whole research region. The north part is higher than the south, and the northeast of estuary is the highest. The inshore suspended sediment is mainly influenced by local bed sediment, and the offshore suspended sediments possibly come from the suspended particles of the adjacent region. The surface sediment concentration is similar to the bottom in the north, but the bottom one is much larger than the surface in the south. The SSC of spring tides is much larger than that of neap tides, and the SSC increases with tidal current. Sediment is mainly from inshore sediment transport in Xiaoqing estuary.
