The application of Hilbert spectral whitening method to high resolution processing of marine seismic data

  • In order to meet the demand of high-resolution broadband processing of ocean seismic data, and to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional methods such as spectral whitening and inverse Q filtering, we studied in this paper the possibility to apply the Hilbert Huang transform (HHT) spectral whitening method to high resolution seismic data processing.Firstly, we decompose the seismic signals by EMD, then use the spectral whitening method to do reasonable amplitude balance based on instantaneous frequency under different IMF components. Finally, the signals are reconstructed by inverse transform on different scales after frequency compensation.Upon the basis high-resolution seismic signals are acquired. The correctness and validity of the proposed method are proved by the theoretical model calculation and the actual seismic data processing.Compared with the conventional spectral whitening method, the method can enhance the resolution of seismic signal in both time domain and frequency domain, make the seismic profile more continuous and clear, and keep a high signal-to-noise ratio.
