SHORT TERM DEPOSITIONAL DYNAMIC PROCESSES AT DAGU RIVER MOUTH OF JIAOZHOU BAY

  • A platform with autonomous instruments was established for 10 days to monitor synchronous waves, currents, water level, seabed changes and water turbidity at the Dagu river mouth of the Jiaozhou Bay during the period from September 24 to October, 2012. Moreover, a northwest offshore strong winds process was caught successfully during the period. The results suggest that the seabed was under an alternative erosion-deposition pattern during the period landward winds dominate, but under rapid deposition when it met with offshore strong winds from northwest, since wave propagation toward the shore is limited and wave height and wave energy decrease in a sudden. In addition, The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge renders some impact to the sediment movement. The surface sediment of seabed to the north of the bridge shows a westward transporting tendency, whereas surface sediment of seabed shows an eastward transporting tendency to the south of the bridge.
