SEISMIC RESPONSE AND GENETIC MECHANISM OF THE SUBMARINE LANDSLIDES IN SHENHU AREA, SOUTH CHINA SEA

  • Submarine landslide always happens on the continental slope. It is one of the leading factors to change the landform of the seabed and the important way to transport the sediment from the continent to the deep-sea basin. To study the hydrate reservoir in the Shenhu Area, northern South China Sea,3-D seismic data gathered in this area are processed with special methods. The headwall scarps, side scarps and the internal structure of submarine landslides are interpreted based on the characteristics of the seismic responses in the seismic profiles; the shape and the extending pattern of the submarine landslides are interpreted based on the time slices of different reflection interval. Based on the results of the spectral analysis of the fluid medium accumulation area and the correspondence between the submarine landslides and the fluid medium accumulation area, the relationship between the genetic mechanism of the submarine landslides and the fluid medium in this area is interpreted and defined.
